Engineered Wood Flooring Specification Guide for Architectural Projects
A useful flooring specification connects the design brief with the product that will be sampled, quoted and approved. For commercial and hospitality projects, confirm the requirements for the selected construction and order rather than relying on general collection claims.
This guide is a briefing checklist for working with BOPMAN. It does not certify a product or replace the project specification, applicable requirements or the installation instructions for the approved flooring.
1. Define the project and the proposed flooring
Provide the destination, intended application, estimated quantity and target programme. Identify the timber species, appearance grade, pattern and colour direction. Include drawings and note borders, transitions, special pieces and areas with different requirements.
For wide plank, herringbone, chevron or modular parquet, confirm the dimensions and layout separately. A model name or reference image alone is not the complete order specification.
2. Agree the construction and sample reference
| Specification item | Information to confirm | Approval record |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | Overall thickness, width, length or module size; fixed or mixed lengths | Dimensioned specification and drawing revision |
| Top layer and substrate | Timber species, top-layer thickness, substrate material and construction | Product-specific written construction details |
| Appearance and finish | Colour range, natural variation, texture, coating system and sheen | Approved physical sample and reference number |
| Pattern and joints | Pattern orientation, handed pieces where relevant, joint profile, bevel and transitions | Approved layout and relevant component samples |
| Packaging | Pack coverage, carton quantities, labelling, pallet dimensions and weights | Quotation and agreed packing schedule |
Request the available options for the selected product. Do not treat an illustrative dimension, substrate description or finish as a standard feature of every BOPMAN product. Final supply follows the approved sample and written specification.
3. Review installation and maintenance requirements
Share the proposed subfloor, installation method, site conditions and any underfloor heating system. Ask for product-specific installation guidance and written confirmation of suitability for the intended application and heating system.
Confirm the required environmental conditions, moisture assessment, preparation, adhesive or underlay selection and operating limits with the responsible project and installation teams. Request the care and maintenance instructions for the chosen finish, including product-specific guidance if future refinishing is part of the brief.
4. Identify the documents the project needs
List any emissions, fire, slip, acoustic, timber sourcing or other documentation required by the project and destination. Ask which documents are available for the actual product offered.
Review the named product, issuing organisation, test method, report scope and applicable validity information with the project team. A reference to a standard or certification in a general article is not evidence that a particular product has been tested or certified. Confirm documentation before product approval.
5. Align the quotation and delivery milestones
Request the price unit, currency, minimum order quantity and quotation validity. Identify any separate sample, custom finish, drawing, packaging or private-label requirements. Confirm the proposed shipping basis and destination in the quotation.
Agree sample availability and dispatch arrangements for the request. Separate sample review, specification approval, production, dispatch and transport milestones. Production capacity, lead times, packaging and shipping arrangements are confirmed for the selected order; this article does not promise a universal turnaround.
Prepare a project enquiry
Send BOPMAN your drawings, preferred timber and pattern, approximate area, destination, target timing and required documents. Mark any undecided details so they can be reviewed before quotation.
